Because This Is More Important Than Anything Else They Could Deal With
-
Politicians are idiots. Check that -- they're PANDERING idiots. Seven Southern California congressdrones are actually calling on the FCC to intervene in the Time Warner-Dodgers situation, muscling competing cable and satellite companies into agreements to carry the expensive Dodgers channel. Why? Why not let the market work? Because it IS working. The Dodgers deal was for too much money, Time Warner will have to lower the price to what DirecTV, FiOS, Cox, Charter, et al. are willing to pay (and pass along to consumers), and the ONLY reason for federal intervention in a private situation is, in the words of lead idiot Tony Cárdenas, that constituents "can't watch their favorite team and they're bummed." Really, now. So blame the Dodgers for taking an unrealistic amount. Blame Time Warner for needing to demand an insane price for a one-team channel and insisting that all cable/satellite subscribers pay it. But don't get the feds involved. (Los Angeles Times)
