Two historic churches in Lower Manhattan have become even more of a tourist magnet than they previously were. Why? Public bathrooms. They have among the very few public bathrooms in that area down by the Freedom Tower and Wall Street and Battery Park. It costs the churches a lot of money to keep the bathrooms operational and clean, but they say it's worth the trouble (and those churches are VERY wealthy, so they can afford it). It's the best service they can offer, short of salvation. (New York Times)
