Coincidence? I Think Not
-
Is the lottery rigged? Well, not exactly, but could people connected to it at the retail level be gaming the system to siphon off winning tickets? This newspaper investigation of Ohio Lottery winners found 13 people claiming over 100 prizes of $600 or more each. That's... suspicious. Unless you play a LOT -- lots more than the kind of people who would play the lottery could afford -- it seems unlikely that people are that lucky. One guy has claimed over 300 prizes for a total of over $800,000. Some of it may be winners asking someone to turn a ticket in for them to avoid a court order or garnishment, and the claimant then taking a percentage. But either way, it doesn't make you confident that the whole thing is on the level. (Springfield News-Sun/Dayton Daily News)
