It's Better To Be Chicken
-
Kids do stupid things on dares, as anyone who's ever been a kid knows. "A Christmas Story" was accurate on that account. Those dares shouldn't lead to tragedy, but they sometimes do, as in this case of a fire that killed an 8-year-old boy and started when one kid dared another kid to light a piece of paper on fire for a hundred bucks, then, when the fire spread, the latter kid grabbed a can of what he thought was water and knocked it over, and it was gas. All on a dare. Here's a question: What is it about human nature that makes us respond to stupid dares? Why is it societally taboo to turn down a dare? (WCVB-TV/Boston)
