I'll Still Stick To Chucks. Fifty Bucks And You Can Wear Them Into The Ground
-
I've told you before about how I just can't understand the "hobby" of sneaker collecting. This article is about that, and how it's become a multi-BILLION dollar business as people queue up and shoot each other over limited edition Air Jordan retro reissues. The question I have is this: Since these shoes are artificially limited in number -- Nike CAN make more, it just chooses not to so it can inflate the initial price and get the publicity from the queues and shootings -- don't the people who clamor over them and pay hundreds of dollars a pair and queue overnight for them feel duped? I mean, people queue up for iPhones, but you can USE iPhones. Sneakers you leave in a box and don't wear because they're too valuable? What's the point? (Bergen Record)
