You Shouldn't Have To Prove Your Identity In Your Own Home
-
A neighbor saw a black teen near another house and called the cops. The cops came and pepper-sprayed him, thinking he was a burglar. Turns out he lives there, the foster child of a white couple, and was just walking home from school. This was in North Carolina, and while we'd like to think that times have changed, and in many ways they have, you can still get in trouble with some cops just for being black. And when African-Americans tell others that you can't imagine what it's like to be always under suspicion and always treated like a second-class citizen, or worse, this is one example why.
