Don't Want Subway And Potbelly To Learn Any Trade Secrets
-
In the category of "You Have Got To Be Sh-tting Me" comes this revelation: Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches makes all employees, including delivery drivers and sandwich makers, sign a VERY restrictive two-year noncompete that includes not only competitors but ANY business within three miles of the chain's locations that gets over 10% of their revenue from selling sandwiches. What information could a delivery driver possibly have that would justify blocking his or her employment elsewhere? Why would the company want to do this? A class action suit in progress is asking the same question while challenging what the plaintiffs say is the chain's wage theft. And it points out how some businesses (coughRADIOcough) will demand noncompetes not because they're necessary or that they're even enforceable but because they can. It's intimidation, plain and simple. (Huffington Post)
