Beats Taking Out Student Loans, I Guess
-
A Temple University student won her lawsuit against her estranged parents to make them pay her tuition, even though a) she's an adult and b) they haven't spoken in two years. Here's the situation: Her parents broke up when she was two. She lived with her mom, but as a teen, she rebelled and moved to her grandparents' house, and that's where things get murky: She says she was thrown out of mom's home, they say she left on her own. And it gets weirder: The grandparents are the ones who paid for the attorney to sue their own son, because THEY don't want to pay the tuition. If you're thinking, well, why should her parents HAVE to pay, New Jersey has case precedent saying that divorced parents can be forced to contribute to their kids' college education, so that's where it comes from. There will be an appeal. (WPVI-TV/Philadelphia)
