The Philadelphia 76ers Are Very Interested In This Playoffs-While-Winless Concept
-
Some leagues and classes of high school football are so lacking in numbers that teams with no regular season wins make the playoffs. We're talking teams that can barely muster enough players to field a team. This year, winless teams in Missouri, New Jersey, South Dakota, Texas, and Utah made the playoffs, while two 1-9 teams made it in Virginia. In Missouri, everyone makes the playoffs, which makes you wonder what the point of the regular season would be. The argument the states make is that it lets more kids experience high-stakes, high-quality competition. The truth is that it means more money. What message are we sending kids, that you don't have to work hard every day because it does't matter in the end? (New York Times)
