Where Charlie Manuel Once Roamed Left Field (Really)
-
The status of Orlando's Tinker Field remains up in the air, and if that name is unfamiliar to you, the place is an old, VERY old spring training and minor league baseball park where the Washington Senators and Minnesota Twins once trained. Why are people wanting to preserve it? Because it was also where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke in his only stop in Central Florida, in 1964. Because Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson played there. So there's history. Problem: The place is a wreck, right field's gone because the adjacent Florida Citrus Bowl stadium's expansion encroached on it, and the field's pretty much unusable. One solution after the city decided to demolish it was to move the grandstand to another park, but it wouldn't be the same. So, what do you do with the place? (WFTV/Orlando)
