As '60s Poets Go, I Preferred Nipsey Russell (Really)
-
Dead: Rod McKuen, poet and songwriter who was lucky enough to have his career peak at the very moment America was susceptible to schlocky poetry. He was everywhere for a few years there. And you know his adaptation of Jacques Brel's "Le Moribond," because Terry Jacks made it a hit: "Seasons in the Sun." Yeah, ugh. But did you know that he was the "Dor" of Bob McFadden and Dor who had a novelty hit with "The Mummy" in the '50s? Or that he was nominated twice for Oscars? Still schlocky, though.
