On The Bright Side, Fewer People Are Taking Their Dumps On The Sidewalk
-
San Diego has a pretty severe homeless problem, and they're trying to help by installing fancy new public bathrooms in two strategic locations. Apparently, this was a bad move, because one of them, installed in the gentrifying East Village near Petco Park, is now a magnet for crime, with the loo being used for drug use and sex, and homeless people establishing tent cities nearby. The toilet's also been vandalized, and people working and living nearby say they hadn't had problems before but are now afraid to walk in the area. And this cost double the initial estimates. The city's sticking with the program, but unless they put security on the door 24/7, there will be problems. (U-T San Diego)
