You Could Live In A $250 Per Night Hotel Room And You'd Be Saving Money

Ever get hit with a rent hike? Oh, that's not a rent hike. THIS is a rent hike: This woman's monthly rent for her apartment in San Francisco just quadrupled to almost $9,000... and it's legal. And, yes, San Francisco has rent control. The landlord is working a loophole by adding the downstairs unit to the woman's space, saying that it'll now all be leased as one unit. And they're asking for a $12,000 security deposit. How can people live in a city where rents can go that high? (And, yes, I live in the L.A. area and it's similarly insane here.)
