Automatic Doesn't Always Mean Better
-
We actually had an item about the Miami condo building offering a robotic parking garage where you pulled into an elevator and they'd send your car up without human intervention to a spot upstairs, then would automatically retrieve and deliver it when you needed it. And it does work, but the problem is that it's very slow when more than one person wants his or her car, such as, you know, rush hour. You have to get to work, and the car takes 20 minutes or more to show up. They didn't plan for this, it appears. Either you go down and call for your car early or you're going to be late for work, and forget about emergencies; the building is only partially occupied, so it'll only get worse. Some people Uber to work because of this. It reminds me of the "push-button house" Daffy Duck tried to sell Elmer Fudd, when he brought the top floor down automatically and Elmer asked what happens to the stuff on the ground floor and... well, the future isn't always pretty.
