If It Ain't Artisanal Or Chain, It Ain't 2015 Brooklyn

What happens when a neighborhood gentrifies but wasn't exactly poor to begin with -- just ethnic and working class? The old-school shops and restaurants that give those towns their character end up going away. Take Brooklyn, where ethnic delis and restaurants and merchants and services are either being priced out of renting their spaces or taking the money for the spaces they own. Eventually, the hipsters who now live in Williamsburg et al. will complain that it's all become Starbucks and Banana Republic. And they'll move someplace else and ruin THAT. (New York Times)
