Not My Kid, Not My Money, Not My Business
-
I was set to join the people trashing this rich couple for spending A$50,000 (that's $38,433 U.S.) on a Disney-themed birthday party for a three-year-old who probably won't even remember it, but I'm pulling back a little. Sure, it's way over the top, and sure, when he says it's also to promote his business, it's a little dickish -- using your child's birthday as a promotional tool (or a write-off)? -- but even if his protestations that he does a lot for charity are true, it comes down to this: It's their money. It's their child. If that's what they want to do, it's hardly child abuse to lavish stuff on the kid. Spoiling? Maybe, but they ARE rich. I wouldn't spend like that on ANY party, but it's their prerogative and it's not anyone's business. Except that it IS, because it's all over the Internet, all over the world. Wait... for 50 grand, he got international publicity. Hell, that's a GREAT investment. (The Sunday Times/PerthNow.com, Perth)
