Tough Love. Or Maybe Tough Like. Tough Indifference?
-
A father decided that his daughter had stolen enough from her family and warned her of harsh consequences if she did it again. She did it again. And so, he made her wear a sandwich board in public confessing her crime. And, yes, this becomes a debate over parenting and punishment and the usual stuff. Does this kind of public shaming work? Or is this therapy fuel? If you're interested, there's a chapter on this very subject, or more specifically on judicial "creative sentencing" including public shaming, in Jon Ronson's latest book "So You've Been Publicly Shamed," which is worth a read.
