If They Cared, They'd Apologize And Hand Him A Pile Of Cash
-
A man was held in a Georgia jail for 42 days while New Orleans police considered extraditing him for defrauding an elderly woman. One small technicality: They had the wrong man. Same name, but all the evidence (like a vast difference in age) made it obvious that they had the wrong guy. He finally was granted bond, made it, got out, and now the charges have been dropped, but not before the poor guy's life was interrupted and he incurred legal fees and, of course, a trail of mug shots and articles on the Internet that might not tell people that he was exonerated. They owe him more than a terse acknowledgement. What should they give him for the trouble they caused? (WXIA-TV/Atlanta)
