Though We're Pretty Certain Cats Hate Everything
-
By now, you've seen the study that indicated that maybe your dog doesn't want you to hug him. This came from a University of British Columbia professor emeritus and dog-training expert, who says the hugs increase the dog's stress level. But this is NOT a peer-reviewed study, and, let's face it, we really can't tell WHAT our pets are thinking, mostly because while we know they can feel pain and react in fear, their thought processes are different than ours and, because they have no language skills, they generally don't know what's going on, not fully, anyway. Would you stop hugging your dog? Or if you're a cat owner, did you believe that story about how cats don't want your petting because they consider humans unclean? How DO you express your love for your pets? (New York Times)
