Dishonor Among Thieves
-
I've often mentioned here how I'm not sure how those smash-and-grab jewelry store robberies can succeed, given how you have to get in and out so fast and get past security at the mall after traversing a substantial distance between the mall entrance and the store, and back. Now, thanks to a tactical error, we know how it's done: There are guys who plan everything out and recruit young, dumb, desperate dudes to carry out the plans. The masterminds set up the target, provide the weapons and detailed instructions, and sit back and wait for the patsies to do the deed. The actual robbers are supposed to get a cut of the action. That, though, is how this ring got busted, and let this be a lesson to all would-be criminal masterminds: you gotta pay what you promised you'd pay. In this case, the planners stiffed the actual robbers out of the promised money, and -- voila! -- suddenly, the police had leads. It's simple: You do not want disgruntled, disappointed employees.
