They Can Always Put The $17 Million Towards The New Stadium, Wherever It'll Be
-
The war between the San Diego Chargers and top draft pick Joey Bosa intensified with the Chargers releasing a statement saying that they have pulled their "best offer" off the table and will now start to reduce the package because Bosa won't be able to properly train and play the entire season. How it gets to this point is hard to understand -- a rookie holdout happens when either the rookie's people have outrageously unrealistic demands or the team is in some way cheaping out. Or the rookie just doesn't want to play for the team which picked him. Hello, Eli. In this case, the problem seems to be that Bosa wants his $17 million signing bonus in the first year, while the Chargers went as far as 85% of it in the first year, which would be more than anyone but Carson Wentz got this season. 85% of $17 million up front just as a bonus -- that's not even the salary part -- seems pretty OK, but who knows what else is going on here. Whatever the case, how long can a rookie hold out? And what will his teammates say when he finally arrives? (San Diego Union-Tribune)
