Herewith, a column by my former Nerdist colleague Emily Gordon, a therapist turned comedy writer/producer, who writes here for the New York Times about the importance of how television depicts people who are mentally ill or otherwise "different." It's something that some of you don't buy -- that it matters if people see characters that look like themselves on TV. But it does, and Emily does a good job of explaining what it means to see yourself reflected in some way on TV. (New York Times)
