The First Information's Always A Little Off. Or A Lot Off
-
The question you have to ask in the wake of the arrest of the mall shooting suspect in Burlington, WA is why the authorities, in every single case like this, rush to announce that they do not believe the incidents are terrorism, then ultimately have to backtrack; and why they give out false information about the suspect, namely saying he appeared to be Hispanic when he's from Turkey. For the former, someone going into a mall and randomly shooting strangers would seem to fit a possible terrorism M.O., and as for the latter, I get that they don't want to foment anti-Muslim fervor, but they didn't seem to have a problem with fomenting anti-Hispanic fervor, did they? And the photos did not match their description, so it was deliberate. At least they caught the guy. (Seattle Times)
