Time For One Last Trip Downtown To See Santa
-
It was the flagship of Dayton's, Minnesota's local department store chain, and it's been there forever. Like most regional department store behemoths, it's now a Macy's. And now, there's a report that Macy's will close its downtown Minneapolis store in 2017, which is practically unimaginable. The store hasn't been doing well, but, still, it's one of the last of its breed, the big downtown department store. If you're a certain age, you remember going to downtown in the Big City to a Macy's, Gimbels, Bullock's, Emporium, Burdine's, Marshall Field's. With a few exceptions, that doesn't happen anymore, not when you can go to a nearby mall, or, really, go online. So it's sad. Oh, that Minneapolis store? It's just down the street from what the Dayton's chain ultimately became: Target. (KSTP-TV/St. Paul-Minneapolis)
