It's Cool Until It's Really, Really Not Cool

The warehouse fire in Oakland is a tragedy that apparently was avoidable, since the venue was allegedly already being investigated for violations. But nothing had been done, the residents (if they were living there) and management had allegedly not cooperated with the inspectors, and everyone there is culpable for what happened. On the other hand, you surely went to clubs and parties where the facility was at least questionable, whether we're talking about a rave in a warehouse or a legit club in some basement. Ever go to a concert or dance or event where you looked around and wondered whether people could get out if something happened? We overlook too much when we go to events in shady locations.
