What Size is your Mailbox? (It’s a metaphor)

Do you have a dream on your heart that’s so big it’s frightening? Perhaps you’ve been pondering it for decades or it just hit you like a brick during this Covid-19 madness? Maybe your friends and family will think you’ve gone bonkers wanting to shift careers midlife? How will you accomplish fulfilling it with kids, a mortgage and a myriad of responsibilities? You don’t have a clue how to implement it, but the calling is deafening? Strangely enough the answer might be in your mailbox.
Messages and lessons reveal themselves every day in the most entertaining ways. You just have to be open to receive them. I wanted to share a recent epiphany that I had courtesy of our incredibly inept Post Office Worker. She’s been stuffing boxes into the mailbox that clearly don’t fit. It’s like trying to zip up your skinny jeans post-Thanksgiving gorge fest. At times packages are jammed and wedged so tight I have to surgically remove the item from the box itself, then slice and dice it apart to empty the mailbox.
Her other genius options are dumping it underneath the mailbox which is across the street from our house or leaving it in a heap at the end of the driveway. These locations are prime targets for theft or damage. Common sense would indicate the best option is to place the package on the covered porch. Unfortunately, common sense isn’t always common practice. Apparently, the major deterrent for this to occur is the “poor quality” of the front yard fence that at times houses seven dogs of various breeds. It’s the classic mailman fear of dog dilemma and I am guessing she’s not toting treats to make this easy. Or she just prefers to create discord. Either way, I decided to appreciate how she handled it, because it provided me with a new perspective.
We all live within a foundation created by our mental constraints, in essence our mental mailbox. In this mailbox we house our limiting beliefs, our conditioning where we were told certain things were or were not possible, or that certain ways of living were not available to people like us. We aren’t rich enough, smart enough, talented enough, savvy enough, thin enough, fill in the blank of not enough to achieve a certain goal, dream, job, home, accolade etc. We fundamentally fight every day, against our perception of what’s NOT possible. Unfortunately, most of this is subconscious. It’s the things that you don’t know you don’t know. It doesn't matter how hard you try to accomplish or change something, if it doesn’t fit in your subconscious foundational constraints (aka limiting beliefs), it’s not happening. Here’s the kicker, you can only function from this perceived space, until you become aware of it, then make choices to expand beyond it. So how does one grow beyond this self-imposed mailbox prison? Well, becoming aware is key and it shows up in discord and resistance. It’s like the mail lady shoving the big package into a small mailbox. It just DOES NOT FIT OR FEEL GOOD. It creates friction, or fear. It eats away at your internal peace. If God, your higher power, source, Allah, Buddha, and the Universe – whatever is true for you, put this dream on your heart, you are meant to fulfill it. The first step is to integrate the fear, not dismiss it. The interesting thing is fear and excitement create the same response in the body. Fear is purposeful and can be motivating. You can fear forward momentum, or fear staying stagnant. Which one brings more joy your way? Another option is to reprogram your subconscious mind towards the newly expanded version of self by using hypnosis, or self-hypnosis. Hypnosis slows down your critical faculties, moving the money mind aside, where you can then plant new, more positive, suggestions into your subconscious mind. It’s like giving your iPhone a system upgrade or changing out your computer software. The whole system runs more in sync when it’s programmed to flow!
Yet another course of action is to create a vision board and or use visualization where you see yourself already having achieved what you desire in full effect. Living “as if” you are already there in essence. Your mind doesn’t know the difference between what is real and what is imagined, so why not create magic instead of misery? Life here on earth is short. I encourage you to choose freedom beyond those limiting beliefs and get yourself a massive mailbox! I hope this has served you as it has for me, after all it’s always an Inside-Project.
