BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I started doing weekends and board op for WJMZ (107.3 Jamz)/Greenville (Thanks Doug Davis). I worked full time in promotions a year later while doing overnights for WJMZ. I did that for 4 1/2 years then got the job as night host (Thanks Fisher!) on WHZT (Hot 98-1).
I started tracking nights in Richmond at Hot 100.9 (Thanks Mel Chase). I made the switch to afternoons at WHZT in March 2012 and was given a shot at mornings (Thanks JJ, SupaDave and the 3 Steve's...Smiith, Crumbley, and Sinicropi) in September of 2012.
1. What got you into radio?
The love for radio came when I was growing up listening to 103 Jamz in Hampton, VA. I couldn't go out on Friday nights because I had track meets so I would listen to the radio until I went to bed. It seemed so fun! I kept saying when I was old enough I wanted to be a mixer and dj parties. When I got to grad school, my college roommate was already on the college station. He invited me to come up on his show once and the radio bug bit me like Peter Parker.
2. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I thought I was going to go to the Olympics and win 6 gold medals and be a great American hero! Word to Carl Lewis!!
3. You've been working hard in the Greenville market for quite awhile now. What has changed the most about the area?
The party scene has changed the most. I have seen it go from almost every club being packed Thursday to Saturday, to being really slow . I notice more bars/lounges picking up more business. People do not want to pay a cover to go out anymore and you better have some great music, drinks and atmosphere or they will not be staying long.
4. How did you end up going to school at Clemson?
I ran track in high school and Clemson has an amazing track team to this day. I got hooked up with a scholarship and I was in there!
5. What's probably most notable about Greenville, SC?
It really is a beautiful city! The mountains, the sunset...it just is a very scenic and an amazing place to watch the seasons turn. The area has amazing hills to run and all the pollen to keep you stuffed up until November! LOL
6. What's your favorite song on the station right now?
Drake - Started From The Bottom. It relates to our listeners very well. Everyone loves a good come up story because it, either motivates them to do better, gives them an example how to get there or just makes you feel good when you get there. We all love that feeling of coming up and making it and Drake nails it! And the beat is hoooottttt!
7. In high school, I was voted most likely to _____________?
Marry Halle Berry! Was that a cruel joke or what? You wait, it will happen one day. I was voted most athletic and best all around. I rigged the votes! ;)
8. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I am a sports fanatic! If I am not watching some type of sporting event on TV or playing video games, I try to work out. If all fails then I am watching music videos.
9. If you could be on any TV reality show or game show, which would you want to be on?
Love & Hip Hop but for radio. People can see the knockdown drag outs with sales, record labels, artists, promoters, baby mamas, baby daddies, club owners and everyday listeners. You know you are shaking your head up and down like "yeah they do! "
10. Hypothetical question...If you were getting married in two months and you could have any group or singer perform at your reception, who would you choose?
Chris Brown. Because I would be marrying Rihanna and I would love to see the look on his face when he has to sing for me and her! Oh TMZ would pay me so much money for that footage. What? A guy can dream right? Seriously, Mariah Carey.
Bonus Questions
You have done just about every shift at Hot. What's your favorite?
I LOVE MORNINGS! It reminds me of the same vibe as nights but with listeners that are my age and know when to be silly with a topic and when to be serious and give honest, intelligent feedback. The Upstate is full of people that just want to be heard and given a chance to speak and I try to let them do that while I give them their favorite songs.
Your favorite Greenville meal?
Shrimp and Grits. Never thought that would be a great combo but BOOOYEEEEE it is amazing. Thank you Greenville for that one!
