BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
By the age of 14, I had already caught the radio bug after landing an internship at a local radio station. Little did I know that the after school gig would turn into a full blown career starting at the age of 16. Besides holding down the midday show at KKUU in Palm Springs, as well MD duties, I picked up another midday gig last year and I'm now on at KSYN/Joplin, MO. I launched my own website - www.beautieandthebeat.com a few years ago and I continue to grown my brand.
1. What led you to a career in radio?
I was drawn to radio, mostly for my love of music! Also it seemed like the coolest job ever! (I was right)
2. What are you doing social media-wise?
I'm constantly on social media; I use it to promote myself, for show prep and artist research, the occasional cyber stalking and to stay connected to my listeners of course! Social media is a must if you are working in any field of entertainment!
3. What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of working in radio is... not working a day in my life and being able to experience things money can't buy!
4. What is the most challenging part of the job?
I would say the most challenging part of my job is the competition with the other music outlet's nowadays. You really have to give your listeners a reason to tune in everyday.
5. What's the coolest promotion you've been involved with recently?
Just a few weeks ago we did a promotion with Disneyland for its Diamond Anniversary and I got a chance to broadcast my show live from the park, it was a surreal experience!
6. Who would be a "dream guest" to have on your show?
If I could have any guest on my show, hands down it would be Beyonce. Super fan is an understatement. I literally have a recurring dream that I meet her and every time I go to take a picture with her my camera won't work. LOL!
7. What music do you listen to when you're not working?
I keep it straight hip-hop at all times!
8. What is it about our industry that keeps you wanting to do it for a living?
I truly love my job. I'm happy to come to work everyday and that's what drives me to keep growing in my radio career.
9. What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
Be YOU! The only way you can really stand out in radio is to be your own person.
10. What advice you would give people new to the business?
The number one thing I tell anyone who wants to get into radio is, start with an internship. That way you already have a foot in the door! And be nice to everyone, you never know who will end up where.
Bonus Questions
What was your last non-industry job?
My last non-industry job was with a non-profit organization called "Friday Night Live." Friday Night Live is a drug, alcohol and tobacco prevention program for youth. I would help put on school rallies and conferences, as well as other community events.
