1. What has made 92/7 FM a successful Alternative station?
The station filled a huge format hole in the market. There was a great portion of the population not being served with the music they love.
2. Congrats on KRXF having the highest 12+ (4.4-6.6) in the format in the Fall '07 Book. What were you most proud of from the book?
Our strong showing in the 25-54 demo.
3. Please brag and share how the station ranks in all the key demos?
#1 18-34; #1 18-49, and tied for #1 25-54
4. What would surprise people most about the station?
We play more than just the single. Sometimes we don't even play the single.
5. How would you describe the music and imaging on 92/7 FM?
The music is everything from The Velvet Underground to Velvet Revolver and from Megadeth to Death Cab. The imaging just talks to you about the station. It doesn't yell, shout or scream. What it lacks in production gimmicks, it makes up for in personality. We use humor and self-deprecation to imply how cool we are. Mike Hansen, my VO Guy, rules!
6. How has the station changed since signing on last year?
We've evolved to adapt to our listener's tastes. Hence, Flogging Molly, Pepper, and the Reverend Horton Heat are in and some of the mainstream Top 40 Alternative bands are out. I save them for the CHR I also program. That works out nicely.
7. How would you describe the radio landscape in your market?
We're market #204 with 15 commercial stations split among 4 independent owners. I believe its small market local radio at its finest. It's full of talented and competitive people.
8. Could you rundown your on-air line-up with a little insight on each jock?
I'm on in mornings. Kris Metzdorf is my MD and middayer (The Music Industry's loss was a gigantic gain for me. I am SO lucky to work with her). I'm between afternoon jocks at the moment and I have some local guys who are into the outdoor, sports scenes and are big music fans holding down evening and weekend specialty shows.
9. What's one thing that would surprise many people to learn about you?
Despite programming 3 stations, pulling a morning shift and having a family I'm fairly lazy.
10. What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
I grew up with one station in my town. I can't say it was my favorite. When I worked there it was really cool, though (HAHA). I did listen to as much radio as I could whenever I went anywhere, though. It's always fascinated me.
