BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
My first job was on-air at WIQB (Rock 103)/Ann Arbor back in 1999. Worked on-air in Dallas at 93-3 The Bone for a few years then at 92-5 KZPS for a short time before coming to Corpus Christi almost 12 years ago. I was APD/MD/afternoons at Classic Rock 104.5 for the first seven years and have been with 106-5 The Shark since day one (5 years ago July 15th) doing mornings, programming and some marketing. I've worked with many very talented people along the way and over the years have learned so much from all of them.
1. How did you become interested in radio?
I've always had a passion and love for music and learning as much as I can about it and the artists. Also grew up a big fan of Dick Clark, Casey Kasem, and longtime Detroit Tigers broadcaster, Ernie Harwell. I could listen to them on the radio all day long.
2. What led you to The Shark?
The opportunity to be a part of a new station from the ground up and be a part of it as it grows is what really attracted me to The Shark.
3. Give us the 411 on the station.
The Shark is Corpus Christi's first true alternative/modern rock station. We play music from the '80s to today's currents... Blink-182 to Bishop Briggs to X Ambassadors.
4. What's it like working for Scott Holt?
Well, that can be quite challenging at times (ha-ha, just kidding). Actually, I've known Scott and worked with him for over a decade and we're pretty much on the same page about everything so we have an understanding of what we need to do and how things need to get done. We work well together on the daily operations, tasks, and to reach the station's goals.
5. Tell us about your role at the station.
I do the mornings, assist in any programming needs and I also work in marketing/sales.
6. How would you describe your morning show?
I keep it relatively simple in the morning and more about the music. I've been in Corpus Christi for over 11 years so I have a very good feel for the market and the people in it. That makes it easy to just be ME on-air. I can be quite serious one minute and then witty and joking around the next. My Detroit sarcasm also plays a role. Lastly, keeping it real and LOCAL.
7. Tell us about Uncharted Waters.
Unchartered Waters airs at 11pm every night. It's an hour of the newest music and artists outside the familiar staple bands and artists. An hour of helping listeners discover new music!
8. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without _____________.
Music. Definitely need to have my music.
9. What is your favorite part of your job?
One of my favorite parts of my job is learning about new music and artists and then passing that on to the listeners. So being on-air is still a favorite. Also, using my position to do good things for the community. To help with good causes. I love to help out with Toys For Tots every year.
10. What would surprise people most about you?
Not much ha-ha. Maybe that I actually have a relaxed, laid back side to me.
Bonus Questions
What are your hobbies?
Cooking, SCUBA diving, drawing and cleaning. I'm very much a "neat-freak."
First record ever purchased?
Not sure but I know it was on cassette.
First concert?
Elton John
Favorite band of all-time?
I don't really have a favorite of all-time; however, I'm a huge fan of Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Love the "grunge" era and '90s rock!
