1. How did you become interested in radio?
I was looking for a PT job while attending college at East Carolina University and got involved with the college station WZMB. I hosted a couple specialty shows and eventually programmed it during my senior year.
2. What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
DC101 and 99.1 WHFS were always on but I also remember listening to Don and Mike on WAVA
3. What's one thing that would surprise many people to learn about you?
I still love listening to Hair Bands! What can I say, it's a guilty pleasure.
4. What is your typical day like at DC101?
No one day is ever the same. It's a constant stream of communication with Elliot in the Morning, programming, promotions, and the sales staff.
5. What part of your job do you like best? Least?
Best part is having the ability to still put on several annual major station events. It's also been a great experience working with Elliot Segal, Greg Roche, Jeff Kapugi, Flounder, and the rest of the DC101 staff. Their input and creativity to everything we do is invaluable.
Least favorite part are the meetings and the paperwork and not having more time to simply be creative.
6. What promotion are you most proud of?
Elliot's Kegs & Eggs and DC101's Chili Cook-Off are both events that were very successful and started long before I got here. I'm proud of what I have been able to add to make them bigger and have more of an impact in the market. Chili Cook-Off selling out the past two years was very fulfilling.
7. What would surprise people most about DC101?
It's no surprise how talented Elliot Segal is in Morning Drive but our PM drive host, Roche, is also a bad ass. He brings a tremendous amount of energy and creativity to his afternoon show.
8. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without _________?
My assistant Megan Nimerosky and everyone else behind the scenes that are in the trenches doing the dirty work.
9. What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
It's all in the details. Everyone in this industry works hard and wears lots of hats, but it's the details that can make your work stick out above others.
10. What career path would you be following had it not been for this industry?
Beach Bum (which I have tried a couple times, but it doesn't pay very well).
Bonus Questions
What are your hobbies?
When I'm not at the beach during the summer I enjoy playing around with Photoshop and illustrator....Seeing what disaster I can create (that our webmaster has to clean up) for DC101.COM.
