1. What part of your job do you like best?
My listeners, I inherited a great show here with some awesome people who call in/come out to events. They make every day different. Also my co-workers, we have a very family atmosphere here, very trusting. Least? The trains that run right behind the building, feels like there's an earthquake every 10 minutes.
2. What is your role in the programming dept.?
I'm in all the music meetings; I schedule the non-musical elements of the log. I take record calls and get very opinionated
3. What makes WXEG unique?
I think a few things; our X-Fest is one of the best attended station shows in the Midwest. I've noticed since getting here that the station really is a large part of our listeners' lives as well.
4. What would surprise people most about the station?
We have quite a few online listeners; I get calls from all over the country from people who used to live here who still listen online.
5. What do you do to prepare for your show each day?
Pills and booze my man, pills and booze. Ok, not so much before my show, mostly after, and without the pills part. I check the usual suspects, fark.com, cnn.com, Dayton daily news, etc. Also have to constantly check traffic. We have an interstate that runs through the center of the city that backs up every day during my show. EVERY FRIGGIN DAY. So traffic is rather important to the listeners.
6. What is your goal on-air each day?
To put on a show better than the day before and to try to get in the heads of everyone listening.
7. What's your favorite part of your afternoon show?
Rage in the Cage, the listeners often surprise me when it comes to records.
8. What would surprise people most about you?
Two things:
1) I'm a huge wikipedia buff. I'll go on "research tangents" where I'll think up something I don't know anything about and then just start researching it. Particularly historical elements of transportation in cities (I'm a big fuckin nerd).
2) Hockey is not a hobby, it is not a thing I enjoy, it's a religion. There is summer Jericho and winter Jericho. Winter Jericho tends to ruin all my relationships.
9. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without _________?
Boomer. We share an office and he keeps me sane most of the time. Other than him: caffeine, video games, air, water, and food.
10. What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
If you treat people like crap your career will turn to crap. If you treat people well then you will succeed. Business is the only place in the world I've seen Karma work firsthand.
Bonus Questions
Biggest career highlight?
Meeting Shawn Alexander... Oh, for real... Ok, I think the biggest one will be this year's X-Fest, intro-ing bands in front of 20,000+ people should be lots of fun. Up to this point, entertaining the crowd during timeouts at the Notre Dame vs. St Louis NIT game a few years ago that they had in Fort Wayne. Nothing like looking up and seeing 10,500 people looking down.
