BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I started my career as an intern in 1991 at WKFR in Kalamazoo. Since then I've worked Top 40, Rock and Country formats in South Bend, Fort Myers, Indianapolis, Cincinnati and few other markets.
1. How did you become interested in radio?
As a small child I used to talk up the intros of songs in my bedroom mirror. Apparently, I was born to have a low paying career.
2. What do you remember most about starting your radio career at WKFR 25 years ago and what was your biggest takeaway?
The DJs took pride in EVERYTHING they did on-air. Even the segues from song to imaging mattered. They took the sound of the station very seriously.
3. You helped launch WBXX - 104.9 The Edge almost two years ago. Give us the 411 on the music and imaging on 104.9 The Edge that begins with The Free Beer & Hot Wings Morning Show.
With the Lansing Alternative station flipping to Country a couple years ago there was a big audience not being served. It seemed like a no brainer to make the switch. There is a lot of great Alternative Rock music that needs to be heard right now: Cage The Elephant, Imagine Dragons, RHCP...the format is sounds great right now.
4. You grew up in West Michigan and have returned to where you started to program and co-host mornings on sister Top 40 WKFR. How do you make your busy day work and what has been your biggest challenge adding Brand Manager & Content Creator for 104.9 The Edge?
Nothing eats at your creativity level like adding multiple tasks. That's the battle we're all fighting in radio right now. I am constantly working on finding that perfect balance. I'll let you know when I figure it out.
5. How would you describe yourself as a programmer?
My focus is equal parts digital and on-air. Everything we do on-air has some sort of digital component to it. Whether it's on-line streaming, video content, social media, etc.
6. What makes 104.9 The Edge unique?
104.9 The Edge has an interesting flavor of Alternative Rock music. 90's "X" format like the Smashing Pumpkins and NIN and 2000's alternative like Linkin Park and Papa Roach, mixed with pop alt golds like Amy Winehouse and Evanescence adds a cool flavor to the Alternative currents.
7. What are you most proud of from the first two years of The Edge?
The listener reaction!!! Nothing makes me happier than hearing from the audience on Facebook.
8. What is your favorite part of your job?
The people! I work with an incredibly creative, hard-working, innovating team here at Townsquare Media.
9. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without __________?
MOUNTAIN DEW
10. What would surprise people most about you?
I am a non-drinker.
