BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Started in Ocala, FL at WTRS, WMFQ, WBXY, headed to Milwaukee to image WMIL, WOKY, WISN, moved to Atlanta and imaged WBZY, WKLS, WUBL, then to Tampa for WXTB, WFUS,WMTX and now fitting right in in L.A.!
1. How did you first become interested in radio?
I took TV production in High School and since I'm not that handsome of a dude so Job shadowed at WTRS (Country) in Ocala and Shane Finch saw something in me and gave me a shot!
2. After working in Tampa for the past 12 years, what led to your move to ALT 98.7/L.A. in late-July?
I felt stuck with nowhere to grow as in I would only be the imaging fill-in guy! The building is full of rock stars and I was hitting my head on the glass ceiling.
3. What was your biggest takeaway imaging an iconic brand like WXTB (98ROCK)?
Throw shit at the wall and see what sticks. Have fun with your work, get ideas from everyone around you. My boy Ben Judd (He's the Promotions Director at WRDA in ATL now) and I would sit for 30 minutes and just toss ideas back and forth. John McMartin the chief engineer would sit in and help us not lose the license while tossing ideas in, it was collective. Finding new, original ways to say "Tampa Bay's Rock Station' over and over was tedious. haha
4. How different is it imaging ALT from Active Rock? What sorts of things are most important to you to connect with the ALT 98.7 listeners?
No more dick jokes, no more making fun of fucking hipsters (even though I look like one) ... the jokes have to be a lot smarter, and more of a dry humor.
5. How would you describe your imaging style?
What is said is worth more than the production put into it... I've had to step my production game up, but getting the feeling that I connect with the listeners is my shit!
6. How has your job changed moving from Tampa to Los Angeles?
I only have 1 station now, but it's a monster so it's kinda the same work load with having The Woody show and the day-to-day plus I'm doing Mix Group Imaging as well, but hard work is what I do and I love doing what I do!
7. What is your favorite part of your job?
It's challenging AF! Always trying to find new ways to sound cool and make our point without sounding like a tool. I wanna start doing more VO work, see what else I can bring to the table and continue to grow in my craft.
8. What is a typical day like for you as Imaging Director of ALT 98.7?
Wake up at 4:30am and listen to my motivational podcasts (Jocko Podcast) then work out, listen to other stations on the way to and from the gym and to work
Get in and see if anything hit the fan, check FB to see what everyone is butt hurt about, check twitter and IG to see if anyone came up with anything funny or that inspires me to do what I do and then get my ass to work writing and/or producing.
Talk with Lisa to see what's on her radar, try and bring her ideas to fruition check with Harms to do the same and utilize every second of my day to do work and then head home listening to bluegrass or old ass country.
9. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without _________?
Lunch and snacks ...
10. What would surprise people most about you?
I can out sing anyone when it comes to Bluegrass or old ass Country.
