BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Fortunate enough to work at the same station in my hometown my entire career so far.
1. How did you first become interested in radio?
In high school, I was listening to this radio station at night, doing my homework, this DJ was playing my favorite music, had callers on the radio, making them laugh, telling corny jokes and he made me feel good. I needed that. At that moment, it clicked. That's what I want to do.
2. Your bio says, "The Morning Fiasco weekdays 6-10am serves the 'World's Most Dangerous Audience' for 10 Years with music, insane interviews, uncensored sports break, pop culture, news and life. It's genuine, unpredictable, at times bipolar... but our focus is funny. We always encourage your calls/sarcasm/humor or gripes." That's quite a description. Take us behind the scenes on how you make the magic happen each morning.
Man, we need to update that bio on our website lol. It's been 16 years of hosting Spicoli's Morning Fiasco. We work really hard on finding the right content for our listeners and delivering it with passion. When we rock the mic, we make sure every break counts. We're relatable and listeners want to be part of that.
3. Tell us about your producer Taz and his role on The Morning Fiasco.
Taz has been with me for the past FIVE years. My boss Sophia thought we would click. We're total opposites but that's what makes it great. He produces my show. We go over ideas and he helps take them to the next level. He's willing to do things, ALL of the things. The good, bad and WTF. Have you seen our social media??
4. What is your show prep routine each day?
Free of politics! We just made a jingle counting down the days until the election is over. We like to have fun, so we find topics that fit the lifestyle and build from there.
5. How would you describe your on-air style?
Fast paced and entertaining. Bonk your listeners on the head.
6. What do you love most about being on-air?
Painting the picture, being creative and connecting with our listeners. Forgive me, that might be more than one.
7. How are you using social media to augment what you're doing on-air?
Social media, it's a love-hate relationship, right? What we're doing on-air is spread on social. Teasers, topics, videos, events, commenting back, answering messages…. doing what we can to connect with the listeners. You have to make the time and get it right. It's another element of your brand.
8. Who is your favorite on-air personality not on your staff and why do you like them?
There are so many I could rattle off. I STUDY so many of the greats and feel their energy. This month, my favorite is Billy Madison, of the Billy Madison Show. That dude is a real radio Rockstar. Billy, if you see this, hit me up, I have two questions for you!
9. What would surprise people most about you?
I could be an amazing stay at home dad. I love my boys and I'm a clean freak. And I can cook a Five-Star French Toast
10. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without _________?
At least writing FIVE creative ideas in my phone about the next day's show.
Bonus Questions
You have a son. What are weekends like for you?
