BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Did a shift at my college radio station, AIMS Student Radio. Shout out Ardvarks! After I graduated started with Clear Channel as an FM promotions department intern. Popping tents, kissing hands and shaking babies. Wait. Kissing Babies and shaking hands. Got brought back as a part time promotions person. Met the future Mrs. B-Large, she works at the station too. Landed a full-time gig in the digital department in 08' then started on the weekends for Channel 93.3. Had my first shift as the "night guy" the day my daughter was born in 2013. It's been a blur ever since.
1. How did you first become interested in radio?
It really just happened. I was in summer school in high school and the teacher told me I had a nice voice. From there the dream was born.
2. You’ve been at KTCL for quite a few years working your way up from part-time. What stands out the most from when you first started working at the station?
When I first was on-air for the station on weekends, Warped Tour came to town. We had this awesome set-up with an interview stage; it had a huge sectional, coffee table, fake plant. It looked like we were in someone’s living room. We had V.I.Pee winners because we had our own port-a-potty. That was cool, but the best part was watching the headliners from the couch on our stage with the station staff. The sunset over the mountains behind them. It really made me appreciate the cool things we get to do.
3. In addition to hosting nights from 7-midnight, you are APD and are part of the Punk Tacos channel. What’s is a typical day like for you?
A lot of emails. A lot of listening to music. I like to do my "other work" in the morning and then do show prep and my show after lunch.
4. What’s it like working for Nerf?
Nerf is awesome. He is a great music mind and a great mentor. I always say the Channel 93.3 Staff is like a family, and he's my big brother!
5. Tell us about your night show.
We are all about the music on Channel 93.3, so I try and give the people what they want! I also do nightly trivia for my giveaway and the Top 8 Most Wanted songs on Thursday nights which are picked by our music survey database, the Channel 93.3 Music Nerds.
6. How would you describe your on-air style?
Laid back. I try and picture myself as a listener and talk about what I would want to hear. Local sports, current events/news and the music!
7. What is your show prep routine?
Show prep, what's show prep? Kidding. I follow a lot of the artists we play on social media, so of course I check there. I also go to band websites to see if they've got updated info. I like to listen to other shows in the iHeart family on the iHeartRadio app. A couple random prep sites. And now that live shows are back of course, concert calendar listings.
8. What do you love most about being on-air?
I really just love music. I love being able to tell people about music.
9. What would surprise people most about you?
That I am one of 2 Adams City high School 2001 graduates on the radio. Shout out to my girl, Krystal Pino on KIIM 99.5 in Tucson, AZ!
