1. It is crazy to think that it has been 10 years for you at Crush Music. Weezer has been a big part of your journey and they are one of the biggest artists for the Alternative format. How does that make you feel?
Weezer is one of the most iconic & influential, and at the same time underrated & underestimated, bands of all time. And they are even more important now than ever before. Blessed to play a part in changing the narrative.
2. Let’s talk about the current Weezer single “A Little Bit Of Love” from the band’s SZNZ: Spring EP and how it’s building heading into June?
We’re approaching their 8th career #1 song at the Alternative radio format! But well beyond a chart - this one is shaping up to be an all timer, for an artist with a catalog already teeming with all timers. It’s already a massive sing along song at shows! A truly special piece of music, lyrically perfect for the times.
3. Tell us about the Weezer plan with four EPs being released in 2022.
SZNZ: Summer comes out around the Summer Solstice, then similarly for SZNZ: Autumn and SZNZ: Winter. A whole bunch of super fun, very Weezy announcements to line up with the releases as well!
4. Crush Music has a busy summer of new releases. Can you give us a rundown in what’s coming up for Alternative Radio?
Giovannie and the Hired Guns are breaking through now with “Ramon Ayala” - their new album Tejano Punk Boys is out on July 1st. No hype or hyperbole, these kids are the absolute real deal & already well on their way to superstardom. Remember the name!
We also have several other exciting launches in the queue, all of which will be shared when the time is right!
Panic! At The Disco are back with their just released single “Viva Las Vengeance”, new album of the same name (Aug 19) and worldwide headline tour this Fall/Winter. An album full of bangers and an homage to the greatest rock & roll bands of all time, all done through the Panic! filter. Can’t wait for everyone to hear it
5. How are you navigating through the fewer number of new music slots at so many Alternative Radio stations?
Cream always rises to the top. Just keep making the best cream, then figure the rest of it out.
6. Tell us about the Crush Music artist roster & how you work with radio from the management side.
And here it is! The gratuitous roster plug: www.crushmusic.com
On top of being a direct line to the artists, in some instances we also operate as the exclusive marketer, distributor, advocate, etc. For others, we work closely with a record label partner or outside marketer/distributor.
7. I know you have mentioned that Crush has a real family vibe. What’s it like working over at Crush Music and how much time are you actually spending in the L.A. office post COVID?
It’s a blessing to work with such creative, dynamic, intelligent, forward thinking, no nonsense people. Crush operates on the principles that:
A) Anything Is Possible
B) Offense AlwaysBest artists, best team, best culture.
8. It’s great to have concerts back. How much is COVID still impacting touring?
Yeah, it is! Still a bit of consumer hesitation to attend shows, particularly with older fans. The concert business is definitely working hard to make up for lost time. And if you enjoy live music, this is the era for you!
9. What do you love most about your job?
Being there to help an artist’s vision come to life, then seeing people connect with that vision in a truly meaningful way.
10. What is a typical workday like for you?
Most days it’s like being a traffic cop at the intersection of Art & Commerce.
