BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Started out at a college station just north of Boston, then begin an internship at WFNX and from there -- I was hooked! I bounced around to various stations in Boston, Hartford, Providence, Springfield, IL, St. Louis, and now I have been in Denver for almost five years. I love it here!
LAST NON-INDUSTRY JOB:
Stuffed Newspapers -- you know, put the sections together.
FIRST RECORD EVER PURCHASED:
Hmmm, I think it was Madonna, but I might have just "borrowed" it from my sister.
FIRST CONCERT:
Michael Jackson And The Jackson 5. I went with my Mom and we sat in the very last row at Mile High Stadium. I had binoculars so I could still see a little -- it was like watching a flea circus I was so far away.
FAVORITE BAND OF ALL-TIME:
Green Day!
1. How did you become interested in radio?
I had friends that had shows at my college station so I would hang out with them and I don't think I was really interested in radio as a career until I did an internship. Once I learned production -- and saw that I could make a living talking, playing music I loved, and didn't have to wear nylons everyday...I was in!
2. What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
Kiss 108 in Boston. I remember waking up to Matty In the Morning -- they made me laugh. In college is when I really discovered WFNX.
3. What are you most passionate about?
Soft-baked Chocolate cookies.
4. What's one thing that would surprise many people to learn about you?
I am a shy person and deathly afraid of spiders.
5. What do you like best about your job? Least?
Best: The people I come across on a daily basis. Whether its listeners calling in and emailing or my co-workers -- they are awesome and make everyday interesting.
Least: There isn't much I don't like.
6. What would surprise people most about KTCL?
I think people would be surprised to see how much we accomplish with so few people on staff. Efficiency is key!
7. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without _________?
Smart Water.
8. What kind of music do you listen to when you are away from the station?
I listen to all kinds of stuff. I'm always searching for new bands and I like to remember the good ol' days with older music too. I just put the iPod on shuffle and who knows what's coming on next -- sorta like a box of chocolates, ya never know what you're gonna get!
9. What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
You're always market #1 to your local audience. So whether you're actually in the number 1 market, or market 200, you should always put on the best show you can.
Market size is just a number (and it's based on population, not necessarily talent).
10. What career path would you be following had it not been for this industry?
I think I would have been a whale, dolphin or seal trainer at Sea World. I'm serious.
Bonus Questions
