1. How did you become interested in radio?
Is it cheesy to say that it was the movie "Pump Up The Volume?" I fell in love with the idea of a voice reaching out and touching people's lives.
2. What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
I loved KWOD and KSFM.
3. What's one thing that would surprise many people to learn about you?
People look at me and see a slacker, Truth is I work my ass off and I love every second of it.
4. Why did you want to program KZND?
I liked the idea of getting back to a rock station in a place like Anchorage, AK so I sent in a package. Then when I talked to Mike Robbins about Tati Broadcasting and I was sold. Working for a small, locally owned company is something that is a programmer's dream. I feel like we have the tools, personal, and power to take KZND to the top and stay there.
5. What is going to be your biggest challenge with the station?
There is some great radio in this market. I have mad respect for what the other stations in the market bring to the table and it's going to be some tough knock down fighting to keep KZND on top. I look forward to it.
6. How would you describe the music and imaging on The End?
Musically I really like to think we are focusing ourselves as a true alternative station. I want to try to keep it down the middle with the mainstream, active, and alternative tracks. Bottom line is we want to play the hits and play the music that Alaska wants to hear. Everything from Kings of Leon to Pantera. We want to offer a little bit of everything. With the imaging our goal is to own our music. Plain and simple...The bands that we play are our bands and we have to position ourselves as THE station that plays them.
7. What makes the station unique?
Our staff has tons of personality. I couldn't believe the luck I had fall into my lap when I got here and discovered the air talent at KZND. Jave Patterson (voice tracked from KDOT) is unreal on the air...even voice tracked in; he captures the listeners with his creativity. At night we have Corinna Delgado who is bar none one of the hottest, most talented personalities I've come across. She's going to be a superstar someday soon in a major market, I only hope I can hold on to her for a while. Combine that with my freaky ass in afternoons, and we have an unreal lineup...and we haven't even announced who our new morning show is yet.
8. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without _________?
A case of Diet Pepsi, two packs of cigarettes and telling my wife I love her.
9. What has surprised you the most so far about Anchorage?
How nice everyone is up here. It's a real sense of community that you don't find in a lot of big cities. And make no mistake; this is a big city that loves radio still.
10. What career path would you be following had it not been for this industry?
I wanted to be an actor, so I guess I would have worked as a waiter.
Bonus Questions
What are your hobbies?
I'm a program director in the new age of radio...I only get 20 minutes a day to myself. I'm either trying to make my wife happy or on PlayStation.
