BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I started out at Mt. Hood community college under Jeff Young. While still in college, I interned at CBS (KUFO, KVMX) doing promotions, then moved on to Entercom in Portland to intern with their Production Department. From there I got my first real radio job at KNRQ in Eugene, OR doing nights, all the station imaging, and being a production assistant for the cluster. In 2008, I moved back to Portland, to work at KYCH as the Producer for the Dr. Doug and Skippy Show, who helped get me where I am today... Started at 96.9 The Rogue in afternoons, now morning show co-host of The Rogue Morning show and assistant to PD Craig Cooper.
LAST NON-INDUSTRY JOB:
Sorting collectible cards for a friend's small business (glamorous).
FIRST RECORD EVER PURCHASED:

FAVORITE BAND OF ALL-TIME:
Metallica, the mystique will never go away.
1. How did you become interested in radio?
When I was little I got a shirt from a radio station, a big KISN shirt that was WAY too big for me, but I wore it to bed all the time, I wore it until it shredded in the wash years later. That stuck with me, and kept radio in the back of my mind until I was old enough to know how to start my way towards a job in the industry. My brother interned at KNRK years later, and the first time I walked into the studio with him I knew it was what I wanted to do.
2. What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
I started out on Z100 in Portland, because it was "the bomb" in the mid-'90s, and then moved between KUFO and NRK once I found out about Metallica, AIC, Nirvana, STP, Chili Peppers, Korn, Sublime and everything they had to offer.
3. What's one thing that would surprise many people to learn about you?
I work too much? No everyone in radio does that ... It might surprise people that, I would like to be a voice over guy and work from the comfort of my studio... preferably in my underwear. After all, I could be Matt Anthony... If I wish hard enough and eat all my vegetables.
4. What part of your job do you like best? Least?
I love knowing that I entertained someone for even a little while. It is satisfying to know that you make people's lives better. Also, production, I do it for fun, for other stations, just to get better. Its radio that is tangible to me. I can see and hear what I've created. Production is painting with sound.
What I like least... that's tough... Last minute full-produce production orders are about the only thing that ever plagues me at Opus.
5. What do you like best about living in Medford, OR?
Medford is big enough to matter and small enough to escape the label of a big city. I think it's a really dynamic balance that makes it big city competitive, but small town community oriented. Medford is growing fast, but we really need a Best Buy.
6. What would surprise people most about The Rogue?
That we giveaway concert tickets everyday, sound larger than life, and are programmed VERY well but operate out of what some would consider a closet, with computers that were old when I got out of college.
7. How would you describe The Rogue Morning Show With Beefcake And Laura?
Live, local, fun to listen to, ever-growing and improving.
8. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without _________?
Listening to music. It's around me all day, in the car, on my phone and itouch, I listen to music while watching TV sometimes... I think it's an addiction, and I love that I'm addicted.
9. How did you get the nickname Beefcake?
I earned it while I was a promotions intern at KUFO, Rocco the night guy wanted to call me beef. He got fired before I could move up to be an intern on his show but Cort and Boomer picked up on it, found out I did a pretty mean Cartman impression, and called me Beefcake from then on. Plus my god-like physique ...
10. What career path would you be following had it not been for this industry?
I would probably be in a kitchen somewhere... not working.. probably just raiding the pantry or fridge.
Bonus Questions
What are your hobbies?
I used to play collectible card games back in the day, like magic the gathering, I was pretty good. I think I'm still ranked in the top 25 in Oregon, but being a radio work-a-holic takes up most of my time now. No time for tournaments or smelly nerd filled gaming stores anymore.
