NAME:DentTITLE:APD/MD/AfternoonsSTATION:WXEGMARKET:Dayton, OHCOMPANY:Clear ChannelBORN:July 6, 1979 in CincinnatiRAISED:Cincinnati
BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I started my career right here at The X in March of 2000 as a weekend guy. Three months later, I got my first full-time gig doing the graveyard shift for another station in our cluster, Classic Rocker WTUE. Craving daylight hours, I moved into the world of Promotions and became the Promotions Director for The X in 2002. In 2005, I transferred to Clear Channel/Cincinnati to work as the Promotions Assistant for WEBN and Promotions Coordinator for WOFX. In 2007, I returned to The X as the Morning Show Producer and night jock and in June of this year I became APD/MD and moved to afternoon drive.
LAST NON-INDUSTRY JOB:
I was 18 years old and I worked at a place called Cappels. It's basically a costume and party decoration store.
FIRST RECORD EVER PURCHASED:
You are really testing my memory here. The first CD that I can remember buying is Nirvana "Nevermind." Metallica's "Black Album" was another early one that I owned. I think they both came in the old school CD packaging, the tall CD boxes. Remember those?
FIRST CONCERT:
The band LIVE at Riverbend on the Secret Samadhi Tour in 1997.
FAVORITE BAND OF ALL-TIME:
Dave Matthews Band
1. How did you become interested in radio?
I don't know!? I worked as a roller rink DJ for about a year in college... maybe it was then! I guess my interest in radio started in college and I think I really knew it was something I wanted to pursue once I got my internship with the WEBN Dawn Patrol in Cincinnati. It gave me my first taste of real live morning radio. After that, I was hooked!
2. What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
I listened to Q102 (WKRQ) when I was a kid because that's what my mom listened to. By the time I reached high school though, I was rocking with WEBN.
3. What's one thing that would surprise many people to learn about you?
I rarely wear shorts, even in the summer, because I have chicken legs!
4. What part of your job do you like best? Least?
Best 6pm. Least 9am. I'm kidding. The best part of the gig is that it allows me to be creative. The fact that everyday on the job can be different is exciting to me. Whether it's doing an on-air shift, typing a proposal, or even doing logs, I can put my own personal touch on almost everything I do. My least favorite thing about my job is calling winners who registered through the website or calling on-air winners to tell them that their prize has arrived. It's very time consuming and half the time they don't answer anyway. I try to pass this job off to the interns whenever possible!
5. What has been your biggest challenge since taking over music duties?
Remembering to check my voicemail! Before I was the MD, I RARELY got a voice mail. Now I get several each day. Just e-mail me; I'm much better about checking that!
6. What has been your biggest accomplishment at WXEG?
My biggest accomplishment was being named the Assistant Program Director of WXEG. I started my career at The X and this is something that I've been working towards for a long time. I feel like my hard work and focus is paying off!
7. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without checking _________?
Facebook!
8. What do you like best about living in Dayton?
I don't live in Dayton! I actually live in Cincinnati which is about a 50 minute drive each way everyday. So, the best part about Dayton is that I get to visit every weekday!
9. What stands out the most about your first few days in radio?
I remember being amazed by the automated music systems and voice tracking. They didn't show us that stuff in radio school. I thought I'd be playing CDs and carts!
10. What career path would you be following had it not been for this industry?
To be honest, I have no idea. My wife is a teacher and I get jealous of her having the summer off. So maybe I'd go back to school to be a teacher.
Bonus Questions
What are your hobbies?
I play softball two nights a week, I'm a drummer, I enjoy hanging out with my two year old son, and I'm a reality show junky! I'm also a big fan of rollercoasters and thrill rides at amusement parks.
