10 Questions with ... Alisha Pek

BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:

WORK-FM and WEXP 101 The Fox/Vermont, WPXY/Rochester, NY, KLLC (Alice @ 97.3) and KMVQ (Movin' 99.7)/San Francisco.

1. How did you become interested in radio?

I can't remember not wanting to do it. I just knew I was going to do something in the entertainment industry.

2. What stands out the most from your first job in radio?

Realizing that you can live on cup o' noodles and Fritos (just kidding). Probably the fact that you can actually do this and live. I mean sometimes I still can't believe that I get paid, even now.

3. What led you to Radio 94.7?

It's funny because I saw the billboards for the station when it first went on the air just over 6 months ago. I remember tuning in then and thinking that would be such a great station to work at because I love the music! I can't say I've worked at a station before that I loved as much. And working in Northern California is great because of the amazing stations and markets all sitting on top of each other.

4. What part of your job do you like best? Least?

Best=concerts, Least=long hours.

5. What are music meetings like at the station?

The room is filled with people with very different music tastes. It's like a jamboree that should have security at times.

6. Jim Fox mentioned back in April that the air staff will not be "DJs" or "air personalities," so how would you explain your on-air presentation?

We are definitely letting the music shine. We might introduce a new song so the listeners can keep up with the new artists but that's all we're doing. Less is more.

7. What else may surprise people about Radio 94.7?

Probably that we have a great team here of people that love the station as much as the listeners do. It's a fun and positive environment.

8. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without _______?

My Blackberry. I know it's sad.

9. What are you most passionate about?

Outside of work I love movies. I keep with everything: old, new, foreign, indie, and Pixar.

10. If you decided to completely change careers today what would you do?

I would go back to school and probably be a sonographer. I think ultrasounds are cool.

What are your hobbies?

I'm definitely a foodie. I find new restaurants every weekend to check out. That and blackjack are my fav hobbies. I'm a professional blackjack player. I'm very good.

Last non-industry job?

I worked at a dealership. Now I actually know how to buy a car. It was a great experience for the one reason.

First record ever purchased?

No sure, it was probably Madonna or Bon Jovi.

First concert?

It's way too embarrassing to admit to. Not gonna do it.

Favorite band of all-time?

Aerosmith. They've been my favorite band since I was 16. Can't wait for American Idol with Steven Tyler.
