The Wrecks

“Freaking Out” is the latest single from the The Wrecks. That raw, electrifying honesty has defined The Wrecks from the start, and L.A. band’s debut LP, due out later this year via Big Noise. They also released a lyric video to accompany the track. But in the band’s true fashion, they couldn’t just create any ordinary lyric video with simple background visuals. Instead, they gathered stock images, pictures of themselves and psychedelic backgrounds that suit the song’s visual lyrics and create a comedic appeal. “Freaking Out” marks the first taste of new music since their 2018 “Panic Vertigo” EP.
When asked about writing this track, The Wrecks front-man Nick Anderson explains, “I wanted to write a song about my first experience with psychedelics because it was life-changing but I didn’t want to succumb to all the clichés that come with ‘psychedelic’ production. I wanted something straightforward and fun and, most of all, honest.”
He added, “The most important part of songwriting for me is telling the truth. I’ve never been a fiction writer. Everything I sing comes straight from my life.”
The Wrecks is made up of Nick Anderson (Vocals & Guitar), Aaron Kelley (Bass), Nick Schmidt (Guitar & Vocals), Westen Weiss (Guitar & Keys) and Billy Nally (Drums). The group formed in 2015 in Thousand Oaks, CA. In 2016, The Wrecks released their debut EP, “We Are the Wrecks,” featuring the single "Favorite Liar." In order for the five members to get this collection recorded, they had to sneak into a studio and used that time to their advantage. As the story goes, Anderson’s friend was house-sitting for a professional music producer (who will remain unnamed to protect the not-so innocent). They had a three-day window to record in this space for free. They followed this EP up with a second one called “Panic Vertigo.”
