Rochester, New York’s Joywave have released their newest single, “Half Your Age.” It’s the follow up to “Obsession“ from the band’s forthcoming third album, “Possession” due March 13th via Cultco/Hollywood Records. The hilarious video was directed by Isaac Rentz (Lissie, Pistol Youth, Paramore) features “Brushitall,” a pill that promotes youth, hair growth, virility, extraordinary athleticism and ultimately, total enlightenment. Completely fictitious, but falls in line with the highly creative and slightly twisted videos that the band is known for.
The band previously released new songs “Like A Kennedy” and “Blank Slate.” All tracks were accompanied by equally imaginative videos, ranging from the emotionally charged “Like A Kennedy” to the wildly creative montage of fictitious movie title cards for “Obsession” and the visually playful Claymation video for “Blank Slate” All of these new songs will be on Joywave’s new album. This forthcoming collection was recorded and produced at the band’s studio in Rochester, by front-man Daniel Armbruster and mixed by Dan Grech-Marguerat (The Killers, Liam Gallagher, Lana Del Rey).
The 12-song collection speaks to the noise surrounding us. “Our heads are spinning. Every day is crazier than the last. Every screen we walk by is shouting at us, demanding our undivided attention. Control over our own lives is constantly under siege,” notes Armbruster.
Joywave is currently made up of Daniel Armbruster (vocals), Paul Brenner (drums), Joseph Morinelli (guitar) and Benjamin Bailey (keyboard, guitar, vocals). The Rochester-based band first came together in 2010. Their 2014 “How Do You Feel?” EP was fast followed by Joywave’s full-length debut album, “How Do You Feel Now?” in 2015 and then their sophomore album, “Content” in 2017. Joywave has proved just as prolific and popular on the road, performing countless headline dates, show-stealing sets at international festivals spanning Lollapalooza, Coachella, Firefly and the UK’s Reading/Leeds.
On the touring front, Joywave who launched a series of intimate live performances last fall aptly titled “The Possession Sessions” --including sold-out shows in Los Angeles, Brooklyn, London-- and joined Bastille on a major North American run that wrapped right before the holidays, announced two upcoming U.S. headline tours: The Florida Tour which kicks off March 17th in Tampa and The Possession Tour which kicks off on April 18th in Buffalo.
