Little Hurt
Jul 10, 2020

“Alaska” is the newest track from The Mowgli’s ex-singer/guitarist, Colin Dieden now known as Little Hurt. Out now via Another Century/The Orchard, the new single appears on NOW That’s What I Call Music! Vol. 74, and it’s also slated to be a part of his upcoming EP later this year.
Speaking to the inspiration for the song, Dieden said, “‘Alaska’ was the second song I wrote after starting Little Hurt. It came from a deep desire to separate myself from some aspects of my past that I found painful. That feeling of wanting to throw away everything you’ve ever known and start again.”
He added, “The concept first came to me while eating in San Francisco (as mentioned in the song) surrounded by friends, and realizing how alone I felt. I set that against some music that feels a bit happy because, well, that makes it all a lot more fun for everyone else!”
From 2010 to May 2019, Dieden was part of the group, The Mowgli’s. He chose to leave to focus on this solo project. He explains, “I wanted to tell a story that was entirely my own. There were things I needed to say by myself. I started writing about who I am and my life totally unfiltered. I’ve dealt with a lot of issues. I’ve got a complicated head and can be my own worst enemy. Anxiety is something I’ve battled forever, so I built a place to deal with these heavier subjects such as the struggle with depression. I’m not always the happy guy; but I’m happy opening up like I have here.”
