Joywave recently released “Every Window is a Mirror,” the first single off their upcoming EP of the same name releasing June 25th via Culto/Hollywood Records. Written and recorded during quarantine in the ‘Joycave,’ a reference to Joywave front-man Daniel Armbruster’s tricked out basement studio, the song has an instantly infectious chorus and speaks to self-reflection as we look out at others.
When asked about the song, Armbruster explains, “The imagery in the song is thinking you’re looking through a clear pane of glass, only to discover upon further inspection that you can see yourself in it, some of the room you’re in reflected in it — and it might be a little dirtier than you thought when you’re up close.”
The band has also been busy creating something other than music — coffee. Collaborating again with Rochester based Glen Edith Coffee Roasters, Joywave recently unveiled Joywave 4. This marks the fourth release in a series of original coffee blends they’ve been creating with Glen Edith Coffee Roasters since 2015 and is just one of the local entrepreneurial projects that showcases the Joywave’s commitment to their hometown.
Joywave was formed in Rochester, New York in 2010. Their lineup consists of Daniel Armbruster (vocals), Joseph Morinelli (guitar), Benjamin Bailey (keyboards) and Paul Brenner (drums). They became known for their collaboration with electronic music project Big Data, "Dangerous." After releasing two EPs, their debut album, How Do You Feel Now?, was released through their own Cultco Music label, an imprint of Hollywood Records, in 2015. Their second album, Content, was released in 2017. It was followed by their third album, Possession, which was released in 2020.
