Crystal Castles
Jan 10, 2011
Crystal Castles first album, confusingly also self titled as Crystal Castles was a massive success and won the band a massive following thanks to their energetic electric sound that took its inspiration directly from 80's computer games. Crystal Castles were named after the lines "The fate of the world is safe in Crystal Castles" and "Crystal Castles, the source of all power", both lines referring to computer game character She-Ra's fortress in the sky. The band's now famous debut album was also included in the "Top 50 Greatest Albums of the Decade" by NME Magazine.
Their second self-titled album, which is now been referred to as Crystal Castles 2 was released in June, 2010 via Fiction/Universal Motown Records. The second album continues with the same energetic and sometimes chaotic electro of the first album.
Taking a leaf out of the Led Zeppelin playbook, Ethan Kath and Alice Glass recorded the record in a variety of locations around the globe,
ranging from a church in Iceland, a self-built cabin in Ontario, and a garage in Detroit.
The Canadian duo teamed up with Robert Smith of the Cure for their new track "Not In Love." Smith, has added his distinct vocals to the version from Crystal Castles last album, and strikes up a great balance between the old and the new. The album version was itself a cover of the relatively unknown original by Canadian new wave rockers Platinum Blonde in 1984.
The single, "Not In Love", featuring Robert Smith, officially impacts Alternative on January 11th.
