Klaxons
Jan 24, 2011
When Klaxons burst onto the music scene three years ago with their enormously influential Mercury Prize winning Myths of the Near Future, the band injected an incredibly dazzling burst of rave hedonism.
The band is back with the eagerly awaited follow up, Surfing the Void, released on January 18th via tinyOGRE Entertainment.
The release includes a bonus disc, featuring an acoustic live performance of "Echoes", which impacts Alternative on January 25th
and three other previously unreleased tracks. The first single, "Echoes" was Amazon's MP3 Of The Day on January 23rd and will be AOL's Video The Day on January 25th.
Produced in Los Angeles by rock legend Ross Robinson (Sepultura, Slipknot, At the Drive In, The Cure) and written over the course of a three year musical journey, the ten-track album is a brilliantly diverse and engaging alternative rock record.
The cover image for their "Surfing The Void" album has won the Art Vinyl award for Best Artwork of 2010. The photo, which features a cat in an astronaut costume, beat out 49 other shortlisted record covers to take the top prize. Past winners of the art vinyl award include Fleet Foxes, Muse, Thom Yorke, and Hard-Fi.
The Art Vinyl organisation aims to promote album sleeves as art, and its awards director Andrew Heeps hopes the prize will help to shine a light on artwork, a medium which can still play a vital role in the identity of bands. "The Art Vinyl award is about celebrating the emotional resonance of the best sleeve designs from 2010," he said, and added the award recognises "some of those unsung heroes of art and design who provide the visual identity for so many bands and artists."
Klaxons begin a U.S. tour at the end of March.
