Portland, OR's Portugal. The Man made their triumphant return March 1st with a new single "Dummy" via Atlantic. "Dummy” is produced by Asa Taccone ("Feel It Still") and marks the first official single from the band’s long-awaited ninth album, Chris Black Changed My Life, produced by Jeff Bhasker (Beyonce, Harry Styles, SZA, Mark Ronson), due out June 23rd. The album is dedicated to the band’s late friend and honorary band member, Chris Black. It's the band's first new album since they released Woodstock in 2017 featuring "Feel It Still," which won "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance" at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. The band's last single "What, Me Worry?" was released in February 2022.
Lead singer/guitarist John Gourley said, 'Dummy' is an ode to The Cure. For all those hopeless doomers out there waxing poetic on the end times while dancing to Boys Don’t Cry. All my troubles seem so far away. Thank you for waiting, it feels good to be back!"
The music video for "Dummy" was directed by Noel Paul and stars the band’s new, honorary member, Tank Dog. Created by Wes Hubbard (Wooden Cyclops) and John Gourley, Tank Dog is PTM’s newest sidekick.
The band's previous releases include: Waiter: You Vultures! (2006); Church Mouth (2007); Censored Colors (2008); The Satanic Satanist (2009); American Ghetto (2010); In the Mountain In The Cloud (2011); Evil Friends (2013) and Woodstock (2017). The band also contributed a cover of Metallica's "Don't Tread on Me" to the charity tribute album The Metallica Blacklist released in 2021.
Originally heralding from Alaska, the Portland-based band are deeply commit to both artistry and activism. This ultimately inspired them to officially launch PTM Foundation in 2020, focused on universal issues related to human rights, community health, and the environment, with an emphasis on causes directly impacting Indigenous Peoples, including Alaska Native Health. Portugal. The Man have also partnered with an array of organizations such as National Coalition Against Censorship, The Skatepark Project (helping communities build public skate parks for youth in underserved communities), March for Our Lives (Gun Reform), Keep Oregon Well (Mental Health), and Protect Our Winters (Climate Change), to name just a few. In 2022, the band furthered their passion for activism when they launched PTM’s NIGHT OUT initiative – supporting disabled fans requiring ADA access.
Portugal. The Man will play Bonnaroo the week before the the release of Chris Black Changed My Life followed by a handful of headline shows this summer at Portland’s Edgefield (7/20), Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre (7/23), New York City’s Radio City Music Hall (7/27) and L.A.'s Hollywood Bowl (8/6).
