It's been five years since The Strokes released their last album First Impressions of Earth, (2006) but the New York quintet have confirmed that they'll drop their fourth record, Angles on March 22nd via RCA Records.
The lead single, 'Undercover Of Darkness' impacts Alternative on February 15th.
Bassist Nikolai Fraiture revealed that the new LP will have a "classic sound" similar to the group's second and third releases. "Sonically, I feel it's the album which should have been made between Room on Fire and First Impressions of Earth," he said.
The record may recall their past work, but Fraiture said the creative process was different this time around, with singer Julian Casablancas recording his vocals separately from the band. "Usually, we're always in a room and changing stuff and doing it all together," he said. "It's all a learning experience."
Guitarist Albert Hammond, Jr. explained the album title by saying: "It's what the record sounds like. It comes from five different people."
Hammond Jr said that, after the album was out, he was hoping the band wouldn't wait another five years before releasing their next effort. "We want to release albums quicker," he explained.
Guitarist Nick Valensi added: "I don't want to make an album every five years. I love being in this band and I want it to be a career thing."
The band revealed further songtitles "Taken For A Fool, " "Life Is Simple, " "Machu Picchu," "Radio Minor Madness," and "Call Me Back."
"Life Is Simple" is the only song that survived from sessions the band recorded with producer Joe Chiccarelli before deciding to record in Hammond Jr's own studio, taking on production duties themselves.
They'll hit the road for a massive tour in support of the album. The Strokes will be playing at Coachella on Sunday, April 17th.
